Japan’s next emperor announces readiness for Akihito to abdicate

Crown Prince Naruhito turns 5 7 and claims he’ll share pain and happiness of individuals like his dad, who would like to allow him step-down due to medical condition

By declaring he’s willing to become emperor up on the estimated abdication of his dad, Akihito, Japans Crown Prince Naruhito has marked his 57th birthday.

A government panel is debating the best way to enable the 83-year old Akihito, who has has received prostate-cancer therapy and heart surgery, to step-down after he stated in August that he worried age might allow it to be difficult for him to fulfil his responsibilities.
