Japan’s next emperor announces readiness for Akihito to abdicate

The final time an emperor abdicated was in 1817 and present law doesn’t permit it.

The Japanese government is considering measures that would let Akihito to abdicate and for Naruhito to ascend the throne on 1 January 2019. The authorities could submit an abdication legislation that is particular inside the forthcoming months to parliament.
