How to maximise your savings during EOFY

Finding a bargain price on something you want is all well and good, but there are ways you can potentially increase your savings, if you know where to look and what to do.

1. Compare prices:
Paying full price for something during EOFY sales should be considered sacrilegious, so be sure to compare the price of the item you want at various retailers. You can use online tools like Google Shopping or check our sister site Getprice for comparisons on thousands of items.

2. Keep an eye out for coupon codes:
Many brands and retailers might have a code that will increase your savings. So check each listing page carefully to ensure you use the correct promo code to maximise your savings.

3. Use cashback offers and redemptions:
Credit card companies and banks might offer some cashback benefits if you use a specific card. Also, when purchasing items like cameras or lenses, the manufacturer typically offers either cashbacks or bonus offers that you can redeem directly from there by registering your purchase. Just be sure to buy from an authorised retailer and hold on to your receipt.

4. Stack coupon code if possible:
It’s often possible to stack cashback offers and coupon codes, so be sure to check if your purchase qualifies. This will definitely maximise your savings.

5. Avoid impulse buys:
This is probably the most important aspect of saving money — sit on your purchase for a while. In fact, if you leave an item in your cart overnight, some retailers might offer you an exclusive discount code via email to entice you further, thus saving you extra cash. Of course, this doesn’t happen often, but I’ve been at receiving end of such an offer myself.

This Bose means business

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2 on a red background

The first-generation Bose QC Ultra cans were absolutely stunning — I still use mine — with excellent sound and a comfy fit. The Gen 2 takes that even further and looks even better with the metallic trim. Sure, there are better-looking headphones out there (the Sonos Arc and Sony’s latest 1000X ColleXion comes to mind), but they’re stellar when it comes to sound and noise cancellation.

While it’s still an expensive set of headphones despite a saving of over a hundred bucks, it’s considerably cheaper than the likes of the aforementioned Sony and the Apple AirPods Max (both generations).

Our Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) saw them come away with a full five stars, with our reviewer claiming, “The king of active noise cancellation is back with a product that’s just a mild improvement on the model it replaces – which is, frankly, all it really needed to be.”

The previous model was knocked off its perch by the Sony WH-1000XM6 as the ANC headphones to beat and, boy, was Bose clearly not happy with that. This 2025 model reasserts itself as the true master of noise cancellation, backed up by a lively, engaging sound and the Immersive Audio mode that give any song the spatial audio treatment.

Dyson deals — up to AU$651 off select items

Close ups of two Dyson vacuums and a Dyson hair dryer

The annual Dyson Week sale officially ended yesterday (Wednesday, May 20) but the deals didn’t quite disappear. There’s still the same AU$651 discount on the Dyson Gen5detect Absolute, which drops the price to AU$898 for this powerful machine, but because it’s not the best price I’ve seen on the vacuum, I haven’t listed it above.

I suppose the Dyson deal worth calling out is for the V9 Submarine, which is AU$505 off, so down to AU$494. This machine will let you vacuum and mop, and even though it’s not the most powerful Dyson, it’s not bad value at this price.

There are other Dyson products discounted right now as well, so take a look at the purifier fans, vacuums and haircare tools going for a little less than usual.
